REVIEW: Hidden Away by Maya Banks

4 Floozies

GoodReads.com Blurb: Most people would take an all-expense=paid trip to the beach in a heartbeat. Garrett Kelly only accepts to keep tabs on Sarah Daniels, who's in hiding after witnessing a murder committed by her half brother-a personal enemy of KGI. But Garrett hadn't planned on falling for Sarah. When he glimpses her dark past, he feels an urgent desire to keep her safe-even as she disappears, running for her life.

I was so jazzed for this book.  Garrett is my favorite brother and he is so scrum-dilli-umpcious!  I enjoyed the plot twists, like how the heroine is Garrett's enemy's sister, and how not only does Garrett have to worry about her brother but a monster who wants her dead.  What turmoil!  And Sarah . . . Again, Maya Banks paints her characters in such vivid detail I had a hard time not rooting for them!  Garrett, goes on his undercover, nab the bad guy, mission only to find sweet, smart, strong Sarah.  I enjoyed the non-sexual interactions between Garrett and Sarah so much, another Bank's gift.  Sarah falls for this retired, injured, Marine and in an attempt to save him, cut's bait and takes off.  All the while Garrett is distressed because he's falling for too and he's supposed to be keeping an eye on her and she got the drop on him.  And WOW, what a turn of events when he starts respecting Marcus' actions after Sarah's ordeal.
dun dun dun . . .

Lots to love about this book!  But it fell a Floozy short for me because of a couple, not super important but worthy, reasons.  1) There seemed to be a lot of tangents.  Like, that Garrett's story was not strong enough on it's own so let's throw in a ransom kidnapping and a scary intruder.  All the tangents are interweaved beautifully, thank you Ms. Banks, but it just seemed too much.  2)  No heavy petting!!  I get that Sarah had to get herself straight before she could venture into bonking, but at least some heaving petting to get us fiends by till the fireworks!  Anyway, when the fireworks did fly it was the Grand Finale part of the show :D
Are pickin' up what I'm puttin' down?

I liked that Rusty and the brothers had their moment and I loved how Sean stepped up for her, and I still think they are going have their HEA later :D  I CAN NOT wait for her book.  I really wanna read Rio's book too, what a latin lover, yummy!! But the MOST suckiest thing is next book won't be out until later this year! And Donovan!  What a hunky, geeky, teddy bear!!

So, overall, I loved the book but it was not as cohesive as The Darkest Hour and No Place to Run.  I did not feel the connection with Garrett and Sarah, as a couple, as I did the other brothers.  Garrett is still my favorite brother, but my son's name is Joe and Joe Kelly is hurt and I wanna kiss his hurt parts, it's the mother in me ;D   Again, Rusty is awesome and I am patiently waiting for her HEA(to Sean)!!  The one thing this book did accomplish is it's making me salivate for the next installment.  There were some many "OMG! I can't wait to read about that!" moments.  A whole year?!?  Really, Maya?

REVIEW: Colters' Daughter

I have never read a book with so much BDSM in it.  I currently have another book on my shelf that has a strong BDSM influence and, strangely enough, the Dom in that book is more relatable than Max.  My first reaction was to kick Max in the balls and shake Callie to her senses, but that's probably because I'm a feminist and have a hard time wrapping my head around BDSM.  I just could not connect with Colters' Daughter on that level.  But BDSM is not the only level of this book and I could not put it down!  Ms. Banks constantly amazes me with her modern fairy-tale relationships and the sizzle is always smokin'.  She has a way making you feel like you're apart of the book.  Like an honorary best friend, I became invested in Callie's happiness and was right there with the Colters' for a little Max ass whoppin'.

Gosh, do I love the Colter men and Holly & Lily are worth of all their attention :P  I really felt compassion for Callie in Colter's Lady and could not wait to find out just what happened in Europe.  She's a strong woman that views the world her own way.  She is not swayed by money and just wants travel the world then settle down in her meadow.  Within the first few pages Max is introduced then kick out on his butt, deservedly!!  Max messed up big time and it is easy to see that he regrets the mistake he made, but it's not his last.  He is sex on a hot stick.  Strong and capable, wanting a submissive to complete his dominate tendencies.  And he finds that in strong-willed Callie Colter.  The story that unfolded made me laugh and cry.  I was surprised, confused, mad, and sad.  HEA prevails though!

The BDSM was not the only connection between Callie and Max, they really were meant to be together.  I loved this series and Colters' Daughter was a great ending.  I will undoubtedly continue onto the other worlds Maya Banks has created.  And I will try to keep an open mind when BDSM runs rampant.

REVIEW: Caine's Reckoning by Sarah McCarty

Anyone who does not cry for Desi has no heart!  I sympathised most with her character than anyone others from all the books I've read.  Sarah McCarty is brilliant with her story telling and her characters demand respect and a little piece of your heart.  Caine is H-O-double T!  Hunky with soft side, does it get any better?  I just love westerns cause the guys are so rough & tough, and it's a real privlage to see them show pieces of their vulnerable sides.  Ms. McCarty took me on one of the best journeys I've ventured in a long time!  I felt apart of Texas in 1858, that I was on horseback with these characters.  It was unreal!  Couple things though:  It got long winded in some spots and Desi seemed to 'turn the corner' with Caine to suddenly.  I was cheering her on like the Little Engine that Could then she was barrelling over the mountain with singleminded purpose.  I have never been sexual assaulted and could never even begin to imagine the rebuilding that is needed to enter into a relationship.  But it seemed like one page she was "no, I can't" and the very next one was "come here baby."  It left me scratching my head.  We got to point B eventually and oh, brother!!  A cold shower (or a B.O.B) was definitely on order with Caine Allen between the sheets!!  He is so pateient, but a man all at the same time.  He acts the rough caveman then realizes he's being too much and backs offs.  And he gives her chocolate!  Ok, say it with me:  Ahhh!  A fun, imagnative read that reeled me into reading the next book.  Oh, and I'm going to try the Promises series too!

REVIEW: If You Deceive by Kresley Cole

4 Floozies
If You Deceive (MacCarrick Brothers, #3)

Ethan MacCarrick saw her from afar while trying to help capture and kill his brothers enemy.  Being severely scared he had not know the touch of a woman in years.  But something about this young woman made him want to.  He found a mask, the woman, and a few moments alone with her.  And his life changed forever.
Madeline VanRowan was at a loss.  What should she do next.  She was unable to secure a suitable marriage and had no choice but to marry the older man her mother promised Maddy to before she died.  So when the masked hunk of a man approach her at the ball and then seduced her in his carrage she wanted one real experience before she gave herself to the older man.
Things do not go as planned and Ethan ends up leaving Maddy so upset she runs back to her home in Paris, really her hovel.  Ethan realizes who Maddy is; the daughter of his late enemy and conviences himself he need to ruin her life becuase of what her parents did.  He tracks her down in Paris and proceeds to offer her more than she was refuse, as a ruse of course.
Up, downs, confessions, and secrets: how many can there be before you realize your one true love is not meant to be?  Or no matter what, does true love conquers all?

What a great way to end a great series. The MacCarrick Brother's books are in direct order to my enjoyment of them. Court's book was enjoyable but not as much as Hugh's and Hugh's not as much as Ethan's.

People: LOVED Ethan!! When he appeared in the first two I had very strong dislike for him. I was doubting Ms. Cole's ability to work him into a lovable enough character. He's mean, scary, angry, rude, withdrawn, etc . . . How was he going to get involved in a relationship let alone HEA? Well, I stand corrected. And like many men, it's all due in part to the woman! Maddy is my hero. She is sweet, kind, determined, driven, and focused. My heart continually broke for her but she put her big girl panties on and proved to me that you may be down, you are most certainly not out!

Plot: Riches to rags to riches to death bed to HEA . . . gotta love it!  The moments that Ethan realizes what Maddy has had to live through because of him are so sad, I cried for her many times.

Sizzle: I have a hard time giving Kresley Cole's novels 5/5 stars because the pace of the romancing is not my cup of tea. I don't like when characters jump into bed within 50 pages but something more has to happen before page 300 (exaggeration, but you get my drift). There has been only one book of Ms. Cole's (No Rest for the Wicked) that has fit my preferred pace. I keep reading because I love her characters, but I just can't go 5/5.

REVIEW: A Touch of Greek by Tina Folsom

A Touch of Greek (Out of Olympus #1)

Loved this! 4/5 stars because I did not want it to end. Triton's growth throughout the book was refreshing and I loved his ideas of capturing Sophia's heart in the beginning. Some men . . . even God's get it wrong, ladies. I love mythological romance and this was right up my alley! Just enough sex and a plausible plot. I just love when hubris hubristic hotties get smacked with the love stick (or shot in the ass with an arrow). Will definitely be reading the next installment! Read below for a complete review.

People: Characters were great! Perfect combo of frivolous and hard-working. They both have vain tendencies but eventually they realize that looks don't matter, or in Sophia's case has no bearing. Triton knows he's lickable and that Sophia is a babe but getting back home is out of his hands so he has no choice but to show kindness and selflessness. Humility agrees with him :D

Plot: Totally believable, if you believe in Greek Gods! Please let there be Greek Gods out there somewhere!! I'd give up coffee just to know über hot guys with powers to disappear clothes at the snap of their fingers really do exist! The events happen to fall together rather conveniently but I found myself forgiving that just as long as Sophia and Triton had more time together. But as many obvious events there are more OMG moments. Only problem: Triton's story was not long enough :( but complete nevertheless!

Sizzle: Hot like fire! Just starting with Poseidon in the prologue, a very innocent father/daughter like scene had me wanting to meet more Gods. And, boy, there was no disappointment. Chemistry was jumping from the first eye contact. Triton's strut into the bar, their dance, and the many hot moments once he moves in made the actually coupling mouth-watering. The flow was perfect from first contact, to building the fire, to the actual fireworks.

This is the second book I've read by Tina Folsom, I loved the first one, no Sophomore slump for this one either. I am looking forward to her other books, and of course Dionysus' book!
